Folwyn was one of the first members of the new world.
His self-appointed task was to map the sky, to help explorers.
He found a lot of patrons from the Old World, who saw immediate value in his work.
Folwyn was litteraly the one who mapped the constellations of this world, and he spread his work for decades.
He claims his work was inspired by an entity beyond the divine; most people just accept it without a second thought.
He was eventually drawn to a more solitary life, sensing a meaning behind his own constellations.
Desna's influence can definitely be felt in this world: he wanted to learn the meaning She would have placed in the heavens.
Solitary, in his case, doesn't mean meager or reclusive.
With his initial mapping money, he was able to live a good life, slightly away from town, reading interesting books by day and mapping the stars by night.
During that time, he met Elamdari Telrunyá and they had a child, Arwen Telrunyá.
He still writes and visits his daughter every so often, but St-Élie is a bit small for his taste, and he likes his life in Sherbouc better.
Recently, however, the sky has been telling him that he should get involved more in politics, and the future of this world.
He decided to found a guild that was a bit like him: somewhat reclusive but not too much, with great accent on individual freedom.
Folwyn didn't really join as an adventurer, more like a manager or ambassador.
He enjoys the political clout that a guild's name gives him, and he sees how he could gain influence fast with them.
Most people don't really realize he is a spellcaster.
He is clearly a ritualist, and makes a living (other than skymaps) by doing readings of auras and astrology,
but nothing about him reveals more "immediate" spellcasting.
